As my HOT ROD subscription is about to end, I'm in the market for magazines. I already have R&T which I thoroughly enjoy, but I'm not sure how it stacks up to C&D as I haven't read one of those in years. Evo might be a bit expensive to import, and Automobile turned me off a few years ago but I also haven't read one recently. I like Popular Mechanics whenever I hop onto an airplane, but I'm not sure I'd get my fix of car stuff...
So, Oppo, what's your favorite car magazine?

unfortunately most of them mags are nice skin mags with tuner cars tossed in. For some true knowledge or genuine hi class writing pieces - EVO is nice and the best of whats left.

Grassroots Motorsports. Hands down the best 'real world' car magazine I've ever read.

I get both Car and Driver & Road and Track, and they are both excellent magazines. Car and Driver is more road-car oriented, with very little motorsports coverage. Road and Tack is about 1/3 motorsports, so it mostly depends on whether or not you're into motorsports.
As I found out, both are owned by the same company, so they are more similar than not.

When I was 10 I had a subscription to DuPont Registry. I loved window-shopping. Hell, I'll still buy a copy at the airport if I've got no iPod.

Racing rather than cars, but Racer magazine is very nice. Well written and interesting articles and covers more than just F1

Yes! I would sit in my room and read Dupont Registry for weeks! When I got really bored, I would find a nice picture and try to draw it with a paint job or different wheels or a different background

That's a magazine? I thought it was just a website

MY CHILDHOOD BEDROOM DOOR IS COVERED IN PICTURES I SNIPPED OUT OF DUPONT REGISTRY. Oh my god delicious nostalgia.

Both. I liked the magazine enough when they had an offer for a 10 year subscription for $99, I signed up. If you are just into new cars it might not be your cup of tea, but if you work on your own vehicle, like older cars, race/autocross, it is hard not to like it. They also have a sister magazine called Classic Motorsports, which is more focused on pre-80's cars.
Small little side story... I number of years ago they posted about a position they had opening up at the magazine. I knew I wasn't qualified, but I sent a nice email about how I became a car guy along with my c.v. The owner, Tim Suddard, wrote back that night, saying thanks for the application and the story. I replied that it was rare for someone so high up in a company to respond personally, which he replied, he thought it was important to treat all applicants like how he would like to be treated. Boom, I signed up for the 10 year subscription a few months later.

I like RE but I have fallen in love with Garage Life in Japan.

Here in Brazil, it's gotta be Car & Driver. It's by far the most entertaining one, and most of the magazine's crew used to edit Jalopnik Brasil, back when that was a thing, but I figure that advice won't be of much help...

Awesome, I would have signed up too!

Nice! I'm into working on my own stuff and do occasionally autox, so I'll have to give this one a good look

I can't stand Road & Track or Car & Driver, only magazines I read anymore are Hot Rod and 4 Wheel & Off-Road.
Though there are a couple really cool racing magazines I peruse from time to time at Barnes & Noble, can't remember the names but they're like $12 an issue, a little rich for my economic situation.

My favorite is Top Gear, with Evo a close second. If you already have R&T, don't bother with C&D as they are almost exactly the same. MT and Autoweek are alright too. TG and Evo are stupidly expensive, but are at least twice as big as the American ones, and the content is usually a lot better as well. DuPont Registry is also a really good one as well, especially if you like window shopping through mags.

I read a copy of toyota 4x4 while on a plane ride to Texas. Interesting magazine with good articles and build stories on vehicles. The issue I read had a great travel journal about this couple driving their land cruiser 80 across Africa.

Automobile and C/D. C/D is superior to R&T IMHO. Better writing and more irreverence.

I like Hemmings Muscle Machines and Hemmings Classic Cars.
They have good coverage over many makes and models unlike Hot Rod who, at least while I was subscribed, only covered pro-touring/pro-street Camaros.
